Irish coffee is highly in demand and people love this drink for its flavor, aroma and appearance.

When you talk about Irish coffee, you might be wondering about the origin of this drink. Well, it was invented by Joseph Sheridan, who was the head chef at Foynes. He basically belonged to Castlederg, a place situated in County Tyrone. The invention of this coffee was a coincidence, when a group of American passengers landed on the Foynes port on a winter evening.

Sheridan, seeing the miserable state of the passengers, added a little amount of whiskey to the drink to give them some warmth. This incident happened in the 1940s. After consuming this mouth-savoring drink, they asked Sheridan, whether it was Brazilian coffee and he replied it as Irish coffee. Since then, it became a new drink and was served at the Shannon Airport. Foyne’s port was present in the place of Shannon Internationa
l Airport during that time.

Stanton Delaplane, a writer, who belonged to the San Francisco journal, brought this coffee into the United States after having a taste of it at the airport. He made it popular by writing about this coffee in his journal, which was accepted world wide. People started asking for this drink and slowly it captured the hearts of everyone. It is very easy to make this drink, if you have the necessary ingredients. You will require black coffee, Irish whiskey and thick cream. Pour black coffee into a mug along with a little amount of whiskey. Add one spoon of sugar and stir it till it gets dissolved completely. Sugar is an essential component; otherwise the cream will not float on top of the coffee. Now keep the back side of a spoon over the coffee and pour the thick cream slowly over it. Perform the task slowly so that, the whole drink will not get mixed. Your drink is ready and can be served now.

This drink is a hit in the Irish pubs and too much of it, will make you intoxicated. Whipped cream is another ingredient in this drink which can turn it into something very peculiar. Even though, the invention was a coincidence, now it has become the best drink in the town. Nowadays, some chefs use this drink to make hot cocktails and are trying to give it more variations. Cakes are also made using this drink as the base. Nowadays you can also purchase Irish coffee syrups from the market and make your own drink at home. They are tasty and mouth savoring.
