Pecan pies: Some times I feel if it were not for the france or french people america would have been deprived of the two most important parts of their identity, one is statue of liberty and another is pecan pie.with out pecan pie american palette would have forever remained incomplete.Taste of the pecan pie did not come about in a flash to some french settler exercising brains in the kitchen what ever to do with these pecan nuts so enthusiately introduced by a likable young man from one of the native indian tribes.

I remember my first ever trip to the new orleans, infact my first stop on my first ever visit to the United States of America.

It was a business visit and my host was an affable african american guy called mel .Mel has been handling my newly started american operations, its been six months and he worked diligently to give me a vital head start in his part of the world , southern region especially new orleans. I am a major foodie and I always make inquiries about the major delicacies of the place I was about to visit. In this case all my search results prominently proclaimed “Pecan Pies”.Photographs of pecan pie were enough to have my mouth watered instantly and intensified my desire to quickly have a bite of this oh so irresistible dessert. Infact to reach USA I chose an american airline in the anticipation of pec
an pie being served in the airline food. But alas it eluded me till I finally reached New Orleans.

I conveyed my desire to have pecan pie as soon as I met mel,who came to pick me up at airport. He promised me to take me to a good restaurant which served best pecan pie in the town.As promised in the evening mel came and whisked me to one of the really good restaurant ,it had very nice interiors though not very flashy one.But it seemed that it had steady patrons. As every body was being acknowledged knowingly by the owner, a frail but dynamic women in her late 40s.
We started off with the cold cucumber soup, which followed up with extensive southern fare.I hushed up with all of this and waited for the much awaited pecan pie.Pecan pie finally arrived ,the brown coloured custard beauty tempting me with her colour and aroma.I shamelessly pounded on it ,leaving mel bewildered , and as they say rest is history.

I stayed in the new orleans for about a fortnight and every evening was spend searching for new restaurants and doing what? Yes you guessed it right eating pecan pies. After spending a delightful 15 days in the new orleans I am now back to my home. Now I am embarked on a different search, for a gym which could put me back in shape, which got distorted by a bit in the form of a small paunch in my belly which umpteen plates of pecan pie gave me.But I do not regret it since I got what I wanted passionately,an authentic southern pecan pie.
